Hola my friend, it’s going to be a mega January for our Singapore flamenco community.

In collaboration with our national theatre, Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, there’ll be over 18 flamenco events. These include performances from top artists from Spain, as well as our local flamenco community and masterclasses.

Whether you are an experienced practitioner or a newbie wanting to explore Spanish dances, there is something for you to participate in!

I’ve compiled the list of events. Read, share, come join!

Who will teach you?

Mercedes Cortés (singer) and Jordi Flores (guitarist) from Sevilla

I’ve invited my artists, Mercedes and Jordi from Sevilla to teach in Singapore and also accompany us in our Esplanade shows.

They are highly skilled musicians. Between both of them, they have performed with Spain’s top acclaimed artists, including Miguel Poveda, Farruquito, Marco Flores, Olga Pericet, Rafaela Carrasco and more. They perform in the most important tablaos in Spain such as Seville’s Los Gallos, Madrid’s Corral de la Morería.

More importantly, they are skilled in teaching dancers how to understand their flamenco dance in relation to the song & guitar. What is flamenco communication? What are the ‘secret’ codes? These are tools every flamenco dancer needs to know.

Start 2025 powerfully to your plug your flamenco skills gap. Gain the tools for you to understand and transform your flamenco finally!

In past workshops, there has always been a choreographic element, so dancers tend to get caught up with the choreography.

You already have (lots of) choreography, so now you can learn how to use that material to the different spontaneous ways the singer can sing to you.

Por Fiesta, in my view, is the most accessible way to understand flamenco spontaneity. Because we simply do short solos (no memorising of choreography!) and go with the flow of the song.

If you are dancer and have been learning flamenco to fixed sequences of choreography; if you’ve not experienced your own flamenco spontaneity, then this workshop is for you!

Be part of flamenco pioneering history – this is the very first masterclass/workshops in Singapore with 100% focus on teaching you how to practise and perform to LIVE SPONTANEOUS Flamenco. It will be fun!

Mercedes & Jordi’s participation in this workshop is a collaboration with Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay’s da:ns focus 2024/25: Salero Flamenco – free programmes curated by Tania Goh on 10 – 12 Jan 2025.
