🌹When people think of Spain, it’s often these that come to mind - flamenco, feet stamping, “fire” and “passion”.
But I feel this default description can sometimes reduce a rich culture into a stereotype.
So today, I want to show you another side of Spain - one that is elegant, poetic and equally captivating.
I’ve chosen two timeless works: La Vida Breve by Manuel de Falla and Asturias by Albéniz, to invite you into a different mood of Spain.
As I dance this style - we call it Classical Spanish or Estilizado - I feel a different side of myself emerging, refining my body lines and flowing with music that is as elegant and expressive.
Listen to the music. Watch the dances.
I’d love to know:
Which piece speaks to you more - La Vida Breve or Asturias?
🇪🇸 I’m Tania, crafting Spanish experiences through dance, music and culture.
Come into this world with me.

Don’t just have a tourist exposure. Tania takes you into an insider experience 😃
Inside Seville’s Feria de Abril, Sevillanas isn’t just a dance. It’s a social celebration of human connection.
While your feet carry the rhythmic foundation, your upper body carries YOU.
Your posture, your carriage, and your expressive arms project your energy and charisma into the room.
That’s why spending time refining your arm technique is so worth the effort (*vale la pena*).
In my latest YouTube video, I give you foundational tips of how to move your arms, taking you beyond studio to see how Sevillanas is lived, danced, and expressed in Spain.

🌹Come with me and explore culture, connection and life through Spanish dance.🇪🇸💃
Today, we’re dancing to a powerful and dramatic piece of music called Asturias.
The music calls for strength and dynamism, and that is what you see us training for here.
Asturias is a beautiful dance that my maestra, @palomagomezflamenco 💛 from Madrid, taught me, and which I now pass on to my students.
On the surface, it might seem like you’re simply learning steps. But pause for a moment and consider this: you’re receiving an inheritance of art that has been passed down through time.
It fills me with wonder when I think about that.
Through my years in Spain 🇪🇸, learning and working with my maestros, living with the locals, dance paved the way for much more.
Beyond the studio, it became a way to keep growing, sow meaningful relationships and experience a wider world.
If you love culture, people and places, Spanish dance is a window to many complementary experiences.
Come and explore with me 😊

When people think of learning a dance, they often think of steps.
(Confession: so did I.)
But over many years, dance opened doors I never expected—to culture, friendship, community, travel, and experiences that enriched my life far beyond the dance studio.
Recently, I returned from Sevilla and the Feria de Abril.
Back in Singapore, I’ve started a new season of Sevillanas classes, and I wanted to share a little glimpse into that world.
In this video, I connect our training in Singapore with the culture, music and traditions that bring Sevillanas to life in Sevilla.
Because understanding what you’re dancing to can make the experience so much richer.
Warmly,
Tania

🌹New experiences for these adults. For most, this is their 2nd class. At the beginning stage, take the time on the good ol’ basics.
You can simply start by feeling
and enjoying the rhythm and music
exploring the style of arms that give that Spanish look.
You’ll work muscles and perseverance (!) that you might not have worked before!
Fingers! Fingers are so unique to
flamenco dance. You’ve got to give them life. As my maestro says ‘Dale vida’
And don’t forget to add your personality!
(Ps. Even if you already have some higher beginner background, you can always do well to work the basics. And I’ll throw in a challenge or two for you - like a spontaneous solo)!

Sevillanas is the most universal Spanish Dance. Anyone can learn this.
We dance it a lot (!) at the Feria de Abril, Sevilla’s world-famous party!
Here’s a little video, fresh from this April where I’m immersing in all this irresistible Spanish culture.
Looking forward to sharing this in Singapore, soon!”

🌹Come with me into my flamenco world.
Here in Singapore, these dancers are learning a style called La Caña.
It has 12 beat rhythms unique to flamenco. You can also dance it with an accessory the Spanish shawl. We call it the Mantón de Manila. It embellishes your dance visually
But first you would need to work at it
So I usually like to start the class with the basic mantón moves that every dancer should know, paying attention to the arms, feeling the mantón momentum in the air. You gain agility and coordination
But more than just a great mind-body workout, flamenco also stirs the heart!
The Caña is a new flamenco music
that I just recorded with my artists from Spain. So I was eager for the dancers to get to know it
I’m gonna take you into the recording studio. The moving melodies of the guitar by Javier Ibáñez, and the rousing cante (song) by Manuel Soto.
They are a pathway for you to feel cultural affinity and the expression of humanity.
What I love about flamenco is how it widens my world into Spain. It grows my roots into Spanish culture and it creates bonds with local communities.
It truly is enriching!
So I invite you to come and discover how you can grow with flamenco!

This is Day 1 of our Singapore flamenco workshop by maestro Manuel Betanzos.
We are working here on a short Fandango choreography (Basic level). Manuel trains us to improve our technique and he is great at teaching the details - how to work our bodies to give it flamenco style.
Step-wise, it is ‘simple’, but the harder part is to express the nuances, find our way of doing it, with our personality.
The workshop continues. We’ll be beginning a Bulerias (8-10 May). Interested students can email me to find out more.

This flamenco dance makes you imagine your LOVE as the water in the desert that calms your thirst!
“Eres agua del desierto
que calma mi sed”
What a lovely image this is! And so as you dance you evoke and feel that emotion.
