  1. In this video, get a feel of Manuel’s Bulerías por Soleá at the Festival de Jerez (2022). It has flamenco style, flavour, richness.
  2. You’ll also get a feel of the cante, its melody and guitar accompaniment.
  3. Note not just the choreography, but the parts (structure) of the dance. How the dancer can communicate with the singer and guitarist.
  4. Watch how Manuel breaks down the choreography to compás, explains how execute the move and how you can use your body.

  1. The Bulerías is really useful to learn! You’ll be needing this essential palo (style) for ALL of your flamenco life! 😄 It ends many other dance styles.
  2. Plus you can use it ‘por fiesta’ (spontaneous flamenco parties).

I find cante a great way to get to know the culture and background of our art. For most of us dancers, dance would have been the initial ‘tip of the iceberg’ we are attracted to. And over time, it we realise dance is so related to cante too. And in getting to know the letra, it also enables us to interpret and express it in our dance.
